What exactly is aerogel powder? The gel powder is sometimes called blue smoke or frozen smoke. The particles are extremely small, so the visible light scattering in the powder is tiny (Rayleigh scattering). It passes through air just as the sun does through the sky. If there's nothing in it, the blue-colored particles will look like the sky. It may also appear a bit red depending on how it views the light. Blue skies are blue and red evening sky. Because more than 80% is made up of air, the aerogel has excellent heat insulation properties. One-inch aerogel equals 20-30 pieces of regular glass. Aerogel placed between the flame and rose will not cause damage. Aerogel is also useful in space exploration.
