What is Alumina?
Alumina. Chemical formula Al2O3. The ionic crystals are used to manufacture refractory materials. They have a melting and boiling point at high temperatures of 2054 deg C.
Diaspore and bauxite (Al2O3*3H2O), which are both mineral aluminates, are used in the production of industrial alumina. Al2O3 with high purity is prepared mainly by chemical means. Al2O3 contains many isomorphous crystalline forms. There are currently over 10 different types of crystals. They have different properties. At temperatures above 1300 deg C, they are almost completely transformed into a a-Al2O3.
Modified alumina of ultra high purity with rare earth:
Shanghai Jiaotong University has put in operation the pilot project of rare Earth modified high-purity sapphires, independently developed and researched by its R&D group. For the first time, alumina high purity products with 5N purity (purity greater 99.999%) were produced on this production line. The high-purity product is alumina, which is also the primary raw material for artificial sapphire. The new project is a replacement for the lack of a high-purity international aluminum preparation technology. It will also complete the entire line in the high purity aluminum and artificial sapphire industries.
The R&D team in China has created the first ultra-high purity aluminum purification technology and equipment that is protected by complete intellectual property rights. Professor Zhang Wei is the team leader. He said that this new technology combines the purification of high-purity aluminium with the preparation of rare earth materials. After adding rare earth to the product, it not only improved toughness but also achieved color brightness and hardness. Now that the technology has improved greatly, it is possible to prepare ultra-high purity aluminum ingots 6N and produce large quantities of 5N ingots.
According to the current understanding, high-purity aluminium hydrolysis alumina (with a purity higher than 5N) is the primary raw material used for manufacturing sapphire single chip LED substrates. Sapphire is the substrate of choice for more than 90 percent of LED manufacturers worldwide. High-purity Alumina is widely used as a substrate material for LEDs.
