ETB can be added to amino and Nitrocellulose paints in order to reduce "orange peeling" and increase the gloss by 2 - 6%. ETB, as a solvent ink or as a dispersant in the printing ink can improve the adhesion, gloss and rheology. ETB can be used to extract fibers. Alien Signal used ETB for the extraction of 76% polyethylene fibers with mineral oil. This reduced the mineral oils content by 0.15 %. Asahi Electric Company of Japan used it as a household cleaner. After treating the polyoxy-propane monobutyl ether with ETB and propylene oxide, they obtained a KOH reaction containing ETB.
