Chromium sulfide, a source of chromium that is acid-soluble but moderately water-soluble, is compatible with the sulfates. Sulfate, also known as sulfate ester, is formed when one or more hydrogens are replaced with metal. Metallic sulfate is readily soluble and is used to treat water.
